Overview

In 1990, Spyderco shook things up by introducing two knives, the Delica and Endura. First of their kind on the market, both folders opened up the knife market to lightweight performance, one-hand open pocketknives that just about everyone could afford. They settled as Spyderco’s top two bestsellers and their improvement hasn’t slowed since. Refinement has been so ongoing and continual Spyderco tagged the updating/upgrading process with the term CQI- Constant Quality Improvement. During the Endura and Delica’s CQI journey Spyderco tweaked ergonomics, refined blade steels and fine-tuned their performance countless times. They are an evolutionary work in progress and the current level being Endura4 and Delica4. Both models now have screw construction making cleaning and adjusting easier. The fiberglass reinforced nylon handles come molded with Bi-Directional Texturing for preferred traction and improved ergonomics. Inside the handle dual skeletonized stainless steel liners make the knife stronger without adding weight and make an anchor for all external and internal components to attach through adding sturdiness and rigidity. Added to the blade’s spine is slip resistant jimping. Phosphor bronze bushings smooth out the open/close action and the clip is upgraded to a four-way tip-up, tip-down, left- or right-handed clip. This exclusive run has taken these quintessential Spyderco to another level. The C10FPBKSG Endura4 and C11FPBKSG Delica4 have a full flat ground blades or Super Gold laminate and a unique feature, as a subtle nod to the Super Gold steel, the lock bar is coated in a matte gold finish. Manufactured by Takefu in Japan, Super Gold (SG2) steel is characterized by its exceptional edge retention and relative ease of sharpening. Capable of being hardened to an HRc 64, which is far higher than most steels, it’ll hold an edge much longer. However, sharpening Super Gold is not nearly as difficult as it can be with other steels of similar hardness. That’s what makes it so special. Another reason? It’s made through a process of powdered metallurgy with 16 percent chromium, contributing to excellent corrosion and wear resistance. This Delica features a core of Super Gold steel with SUS410 cladding on both sides. This unique three-layer construction is revealed when the blade’s stronger cladding near the edge is ground away, exposing the harder SG2 core. Comes with original box and papers. Excellent condition.

About the Maker

Spyderco
Spyderco

Spyderco was founded in 1976 by Sal and Gail Glesser. Initially, the company focused on selling their first product the Tri-Angle Sharpmaker™, primarily at fairs and trade shows around the country. In 1981, the Glessers put down roots in Golden, Colorado and introduced the first Spyderco folding knife. That knife pioneered the concept of a round hole in the blade for one-handed opening, a clip on the handle for carry at the top of the pocket, and the option of a serrated edge for aggressive cutting performance. Those features revolutionized the knife industry and literally defined the form of the modern folding knife. Since then, Spyderco has steadily grown to become one of the leaders in the cutlery industry. In addition to a worldwide distribution network and manufacturing resources in the U.S., Japan, Taiwan, Italy, and China, our innovation has also earned us an impressive portfolio of patents, trademarks, and industry awards. More importantly, it has allowed us to earn the trust and loyalty of countless thousands of dedicated knife users around the world—an audience to whom we are extremely grateful.
