"This Model 16 Randall Made Divers Knife is unlike the current model 16 made to order. First off it was made in the 1970s with a 6 3/4" blade rather than the 7" blade of today. Secondly it has the special made leather sheath nicknamed the Pancake sheath. According to Gary Randall, company owner, it was during the Vietnam War that some special forces and rangers loved the Randall Knife but did not like the snap used to secure the knife in the sheath. The request for a rubber knife retainer like used on sport divers sheaths, and a flatter design sheath was granted and thus the Pancake sheath was born. Thought the company did not keep records of just how many were made, their statement is limited quantity during an off and on production."
