Overview

"In Chris’s opinion, Grant and Gavin Hawk are the most innovative design team in the industry. In early 2010, the Hawks showed Chris the concept of a new locking mechanism—one that Chris felt he could engineer and Chris Reeve Knives could manufacture. It has been a lack of capacity not a lack of desire that has precluded Chris Reeve Knives from producing Hawk Designs thus far. It is an honor to present the Ti-Lock. The Ti-Lock mechanism was originally conceived as a means to isolate the lock from the body of the knife, in order to allow more design freedom for handle and frame. Completely ambidextrious, the Ti-Lock allows equal left and right hand use. The Ti-Lock is not an exercise in ultimate lock strength; it is an exercise in mechanical innovation and an illustration of a passion shared by Grant, Gavin and Chris. This passion is also shared by many of our customers—those who buy our knives in appreciation of the design, quality and precision put into our product."

This particular knife is the "Blue Steam" edition which features an engraved pattern in the titanium as well as a blue sapphire cabochon. Knife is in good condition and shows minor signs of handling/carry. Knife comes in original box with paperwork, birth card (Oct. 21, 2015) leather slip sheath, decal, Loctite, grease, and allen tools.

About the Maker

Reeve, Chris
Reeve, Chris

Chris Reeve Knives began operations on January 1, 1984, in a one-car garage in Durban, South Africa, when Chris moved from full-time Tool and Die Maker/part time knife maker to full-time knife maker. For a couple years he was the only employee but gradually and steadily, the company has grown to reach its present position as a well equipped manufacturing company and a noted brand in the industry. The road between 1984 and today has not always been smooth. For many years, the endeavor was under-funded but with determination, Chris and Anne put all they had into producing the best knives possible, within the resources available. In March 1989, they moved from their native South Africa and settled in Boise, Idaho. That move in itself was a major undertaking but vital for the future of the company. Chris has always "pushed the envelope". Whether on a motorcycle or behind a belt grinder, he dreamed of being a world champion. He did not win a motorcycle world championship but in many respects, the standing of CRK today represents one. His induction into the Cutlery Hall of Fame in June 2015 could be considered his championship trophy. The single thought in Chris' mind has always been to design every model with deliberation, taking into account how the knife works, its intended purpose and the most appropriate materials. On this foundation, CRK is a vibrant business, has a great staff of well-trained employees, and remains a company with a worldwide reputation for raising the standards bar - "pushing the envelope" - for the industry.

Hawk, Grant & Gavin
Hawk, Grant & Gavin

Grant Hawk and his son Gavin, of Idaho City, Idaho started making knives in 1994. Grant had just ended a 20 year career as a prospector and manufacturer of mining equipment. "I spent years making everything I needed out of anything I could find," Grant said. "I believe those experiences helped me to see solutions lying below the surface. To me, designing a knife is much like prospecting because it seems more a matter of discovery than an act of creation. The art of the prospector is to discover the unknown through the application of logic, hard work and luck. Whenever unrelated ideas are found to mesh perfectly, luck is playing its part and every prospector knows, it's better to be lucky than smart." After attending the Oregon Knife Collectors Association Show in 1994, Grant and Gavin were not only inspired to become knifemakers, but were determined to make a better folder, the result of which is their custom D.O.G. folder, now available from CRKT in a production model.
