About the Maker
Winkler Knives
Daniel Winkler began making knives in 1975 and became a fulltime bladesmith in 1988. He earned accreditation as a Master Bladesmith from the American Bladesmith Society in 1993. Winkler’s focus on Early American weaponry led to his making knives and axes for the motion picture "Last Of The Mohicans".. Winkler Knives is a limited production company that custom manufactures a diverse line of high performance edged tools. It was established in response to requests from within the SOF Community for specialized breaching tools and has become widely acclaimed for its no frills approach to tactical and rescue operations. Winkler Knives’ products boast attributes such as tapered or skeletonized tangs, no-glare finishes and multi-option carry systems. Each tool is made from specialty steel best suited to the intended use of the equipment. Winkler Knives’ operation is in Boone, North Carolina. Daniel and his longtime partner/wife Sheath Maker Karen Shook operate Winkler Knives with the same attention to detail and standards of excellence that brought them acclaim in the custom knife industry.

Whether on your toughest missions or in your everyday adventures, we know that exceptional quality and engineered functionality will help you succeed. We make gear and apparel for capable people. In the military, teams and equipment are deemed mission capable when they are ready to perform any operation within their scope. Wherever your missions take you, we know that you depend on our gear to help you achieve your objectives and get you home safely. We take that responsibility seriously. Engineers and machinists use 000 (triple aught) as shorthand for a thousandth of an inch, which has been the high standard of precision tolerance for over a century.
