About the Maker

Lerch, Matthew

"I specialize in interframe and integral folders with each knife being individually crafted using the highest quality materials available. The character of each knife depends on the components and customizing techniques. I offer unique, patented mechanisms for the fun factor. Artistic carving is another skill I use to add dimension. For steels and engraving, I seek out the finest artist in their individual crafts. With these combinations we are able to offer truly unique pieces. I enjoy the multiple challenges that knife making presents. When I make a knife I must consider mechanisms that are reliable, smooth, and easy to use; materials that meet physical demands, and optional enhancements that dress up the tool. Bringing all these aspects together to make a knife that works, feels good in your hand, and is attractive looking is my personal goal. Matthew's work often incorporates Damascus, exotic natural materials, engraving, and file work done by his Wife, Mary Jo. Matthew has been making knives since 1984 and has been a Journeyman Tool and Die maker since 1981."
