About the Maker

T.A.D. Gear, Inc.
T.A.D. Gear, Inc.

Whether on your toughest missions or in your everyday adventures, we know that exceptional quality and engineered functionality will help you succeed. We make gear and apparel for capable people. In the military, teams and equipment are deemed mission capable when they are ready to perform any operation within their scope. Wherever your missions take you, we know that you depend on our gear to help you achieve your objectives and get you home safely. We take that responsibility seriously. Engineers and machinists use 000 (triple aught) as shorthand for a thousandth of an inch, which has been the high standard of precision tolerance for over a century. Inspired by that ideal, we apply thorough design, high attention to detail, and strict tolerances to ensure our products meet your most rigorous needs.

Mac Knives, Jonny

"I am a long time knife enthusiast and collector. For several years I sold production knives and did minor repair work and sharpening for customers before deciding to take the plunge into making custom knives. I use the stock removal method of grinding knives and start out with unfinished bars of steel. I do all of my own design, profiling, grinding, construction, handle shaping and finishing. The only part of the knife making process that I do not do myself is the heat treating after the initial grinding, which is a process that hardens and tempers the steel. This service is performed for me by Peters Heat Treat of Pennsylvania and they are some of the best in the business." I prefer to work with CPM 154, D2, and CPM 3V for steel and use both natural and synthetic materials for my handles, including G-10, Micarta, bone, and carbon fiber. My knives are geared towards collectors, outdoor activites, hunting, fishing, every day carry, and police, fire, and military service
