Overview

RECONDO - Reconnaissance Commando

The term is coming from the Vietnam war era where small teams were deployed behind the enemy lines in order to gather intelligence and conduct raids. The typical teams were 3-8 men, in rare occasions they used larger teams of 12-18 for up to extended durations on the field. This inspired the birth of my RECONDO model.

I designed this knife to fill the needs of the reconnaissance soldiers. In a Long Range recce patrol. A recce does not use the knife to build a buschraft shelter but may required to do tasks which are beyond the capabilities of standard fighting knives. Yet the recondo is capable to fight if the need arise. The relatively compact size and light weight does not add a huge burden to the individual soldier.

The Recondo 3 is the latest in the Recondo family. This version was created to add more useful blade length, and stronger tip for an already capable knife. The added strength makes this version even more versitale and ready to tackle any challange on the field. The handle was also upgraded and received a thumb rest, extra jimping in critical places and a hammer poll at the end of the handle.

* ApexUltra is a steel truly worthy of handcrafted knives. It is a low alloy design that is forgeable, forge-weldable, and its fine carbides make the steel relatively easy to finish and sharpen. With its high purity and well-balanced alloy composition it has the highest toughness of all knife steels tested so far in the 66+ HRC range along with excellent edge retention.

About the Maker

Zoltan, Gero (GZ Custom Blades)

My name is Zoltan Gero, and I am a Hungarian knife-maker, designer, and professional soldier, as well as the owner of GZ Custom Blades. I have spent several years deployed in various roles, including tours with US and Hungarian Special Forces as a JTAC, Senior JTAC with Resolute Support North in Afghanistan, and as a Training and Exercise Planner at NATO LAND COMMAND. I continue to serve as a professional soldier to this day. These experiences serve as the main drive behind my knife designs. I primarily design knives for military, law enforcement, and the prepared citizens, however, due to the nature of my designs, 99% of them also serve as excellent everyday carry or outdoor companions. My focus is on cutting and thrusting capability, superior geometry, and ergonomics. To me, a knife is first and foremost a tool and weapon, not a screwdriver, hammer, or doorstop. Currently, I also design fixed blade models for Cobratec Knives LLC, a Texas-based US knife brand.
