Overview
Wooden handle with brass rivets, iron blade, butt and guard. Markings include the name of Wilkinson London, there is a number "10" and what appears to be "580" on the one side of the blade and another what appears to be "580" on the other side at the end of the bayonet. One side of the blade is fairly rust free but the other side displays corrosion. Unsure of date of this and what gun this would have been applied to. Blade length of 11 7/8". Total length of 16 1/2".
This Lee-Metford bayonet measures 16.75" overall, with an 11 7/8" straight,, double-edged blade having numerous markings on either side of the ricasso, including: "WILKINSON LONDON" maker stamp, "X" bend test stamp, "(crown) / VR", 3/99 date stamp, and "(Broad Arrow) / WD" proof. The blade has a dark patina, while the hilt furniture has a dark, plum-brown color. The wooden grips have some handling marks, and fairly crisp military stamps, as well as an issue stamp on the pommel: "H / K / 28".
Has scratches and oxidation, otherwise good condition for its age.
