I was concerned that the knurling and butt cap on this one were suspect, so I reached out to Chris Reeve Knives. This is what Anne said about this knife:
Yes, that is a genuine Chris Reeve Knives Aviator! It dates back to the very early days after the Aviator was introduced - the number 12 indicates it was the 12th Aviator made after having been introduced in 1984. I don't have a better date than 1984/5 since those records are long since lost. I consolidated all our numbering records in January 1987 and by then we had made 335 Aviators. When first introduced, the knurling was wider and the butt cap was quite different from the hex and then knurled caps that followed. Unless it has been recoated, it is in really good shape!
