Overview

The Caly™ 3 is a highly refined, all-purpose gentleman’s folder that enjoys a near cult following among seasoned Spyderco fans. To celebrate this classic design and give its devoted audience something truly special, we decided to spice it up with a unique, one-of-a-kind Sprint Run edition. This elite expression of the Caly 3 proudly showcases a three-layer laminated blade featuring a high-performance HAP40 tool steel core and SUS410 stainless steel outer layers.

HAP40 is a high-speed tool steel produced by the powder metallurgy process. Containing generous amounts of tungsten, molybdenum, vanadium, and cobalt, it possesses exceptional toughness and high abrasion resistance—key qualities of a superior blade steel. To provide increased strength and corrosion resistance, the high-performance HAP40 core of this knife’s blade is flanked by layers of SUS410 martensitic stainless steel. This unique three-layer construction is evident when the full-flat-ground blade is examined closely, as the transition between the core and outer layers is visible just above the cutting edge.

Like the standard version of the Caly 3, this Sprint Run features a handle constructed with full stainless steel liners, a stainless backspacer, a sturdy back lock mechanism, and a reversible deep-pocket wire clip for ambidextrous tip-up carry. However, to further differentiate it from other versions, this elite Caly 3 Sprint Run features textured green G-10 scales.

About the Maker

Spyderco
Spyderco

Spyderco was founded in 1976 by Sal and Gail Glesser. Initially, the company focused on selling their first product the Tri-Angle Sharpmaker™, primarily at fairs and trade shows around the country. In 1981, the Glessers put down roots in Golden, Colorado and introduced the first Spyderco folding knife. That knife pioneered the concept of a round hole in the blade for one-handed opening, a clip on the handle for carry at the top of the pocket, and the option of a serrated edge for aggressive cutting performance. Those features revolutionized the knife industry and literally defined the form of the modern folding knife. Since then, Spyderco has steadily grown to become one of the leaders in the cutlery industry. In addition to a worldwide distribution network and manufacturing resources in the U.S., Japan, Taiwan, Italy, and China, our innovation has also earned us an impressive portfolio of patents, trademarks, and industry awards. More importantly, it has allowed us to earn the trust and loyalty of countless thousands of dedicated knife users around the world—an audience to whom we are extremely grateful.
