Description: Lourens Prinsloo made his first knife in 1996, shortly after attending a knifemaking course with Owen Wood. In 1998, he became a member of the Knifemakers' Guild of Southern Africa. Prior to his retirement in 2016, Lourens taught engineering, graphic design, woodworking, and metalwork. This variety of experience helped him tackle the challenges that exist with creating high performing folders that are beautiful as well as functional. His main focus is making gentleman's folding knives, specifically liner locks, designed to be carried and used.
The 3-1/4 inch blade is hand ground Elmax stainless steel, with a Rockwell hardness of 61. ELMAX provides the extreme edge retention, high strength, and toughness a hard-use knife demands. High wear resistance in a steel usually means low corrosion resistance, but not with ELMAX. With this advanced steel, you get both properties, which makes it an excellent steel for high end folders. The blade is hollow ground for an easy to maintain edge.
The blade is perfectly centered with consistent, silky smooth action -- easily opened with one hand using the ambidextrous flipper toggle. It uses the IKBS (Ikoma Korth Bearing System) pivot system. This mechanism, which was originally designed to fit balisong knives, uses ball bearings to create exceptional action with no blade play.
Gold snakeskin FatCarbon handle scales meet seamlessly to mosaic damascus bolsters hand forged by Prinsloo. The influence of Salem Straub, is clearly visible in the highly detailed damascus bolsters. The 3D machined, anodized titanium pocket clip is mounted for tip-up, right side carry.
