Overview
This knife was made in 1982 for a Senior Chief E8 USN (RET.) (1976-1997), after the completion of the JEST School (Jungle Evasion Survival Training School) at NAS Cubi Point, Philippines. The participants of this training school are tracked and hunted in triple - canopy jungle and individually by the Negritos, if they are caught, they fail. This knife was hand forged by his instructor after completing the class. It is forged from a Jeep leaf spring and has caribou horn (Philippine Water Buffalo) handles, the handles are secured with melted lead rivets that are made with whatever lead can be found. It has .215" blade stock and 2.230" blade depth, full tapered tang construction. This knife is very crude and rough, but is the preferred blade of the Philippines. It is used for everything from structure building, tool making, overall survival. This knife comes with a handmade wooden scabbard made of Monkey Pod Wood, made by the same instructor who made the knife. It is carved by hand and then tuned to fit the knife. Has been used, resharpened (sometimes forced to resharpen with unconventional methods in the bush) and carried. This Bolo Knife has quite the story and is very cool and rare, we have only seen one other real one before, and this one is as real as it comes. This one comes with a copy of the Certificate that came along with the completion of JEST.
