Overview
This is a J. Russell Green River Bowie knife, 19th century. The Green River Works in Connecticut was founded in 1832, and the knives became the most popular among the western indians and frontiersmen, leading to the expression "Give it to 'em up the Green River".
This knife is very old and has clearly been used and resharpened many times over a period of over 100 years. Has a really beautiful patina. Stamped "Green River " on the blade. The handle has a nickel silver guard and escutcheon, two-piece stag grip. Comes with a black leather sheath and a zippered case. Has some scratches, has been sharpened, has patina, otherwise good condition.
