Overview
From Sterling Buster of Fight’n Rooster Cutlery Co.: It was around 1990 when the knife bug finally sank its serrated teeth into me. Even though Frank Buster, “Pop” was a pocket knife man by trade, it was the fantasy blades that attracted my attention first. From there the more practical military style blades caught my fancy, and that’s where my love for the Smatchet took hold. Fast forward thirty years… watching others try their hand at Major W.E. Fairbairns beautifully formidable design, I decided to modernize it. I kept the size of the original design, gave it a nice wide blood groove on both sides, upgraded the steel and made the handle ergonomic so it grips you back. My thought behind this design was to keep it simple, yet useful and impressive. Since this was a throwback to a 1940’s design, I chose to release it through a throwback brand as well. Stud Horse was the first knife brand Pop started in 1974, a year before he came up with Fight’n Rooster. He made 200 or more three blade stockmans with brown picked bone handles, and that was it. Now, 47 years later, the second run of Stud Horses has arrived.
