Overview
The Gerber Folding Sportsman III is constructed from a die cast brass frame. It measures 9 ¼” long when opened. The knife is 5” long when closed and weighs 9 ½ ounces. The blade is made of 440c stainless steel hardened to Rockwell 57-59C. The rivets are machined out of brass. The inlays are made of ivory micarta, a very durable yet beautiful knife material. It ages similar to ivory, yet doesn’t crack as ivory sometimes does. The precision-fit inlays are held in place by a LocTite product, eliminating unsightly rivets. The Bald Eagle Scene scrimshaw was done by a world renowned western/wildlife artist Jim Blair. His primary project was fossil ivory before joining Gerber Legendary knives. The blade of the knife is engraved with “1792-American Bald Eagle Bicentennial Commemorative-1982” Limited edition Collectible Knives only available through the American Bald Eagle Foundation. Each knife is numbered on the ivory paper micarta handle. This lockback folder features a polished blade with nail nick. The handle has integral brass bolsters and liners, ivory micarta scales, and stainless steel backspacer. Comes with a wooden display box. Great condition. The blade is etched "1782 - American Bald Eagle Bicentennial Commemorative - 1982". This knife is in the second run, numbers 201-2000. This one is #413. Excellent condition. Comes with original box and is still in the plastic wrapping and has never been opened. The pictures are of SKU# 1028751 which came from the same consignor that sent in multiple of these that were all unopened.
