Overview
One of a kind piece from Duane incorporating an ultralight Magnesium presentation side frame. Duane specializes in using unusual, exotic and high performance materials, and this unique and unobtainable diamond plate material is a perfect example. The plate was sourced from a batch used on the International Space Station, so it doesn't really get any more unique than that! Natural grip and texture and ridiculously light, magnesium is perfect when trying to keep a knife light and strong.
About the BBN-L: Basically, Duane's BBN series is like a SMF with a "bobcat" tail end. So, it is familiar as the SMF we all know and love, and yet has an entirely new feel. As you can see from the picture below of the BBN-L on top of a SMF, not a ton of material has been actually removed. However, that tiny dimensional change makes the knife feel smaller in the hand. Reverse grip is also enhanced. While in your pocket, it is easier to get your hand in that pocket to get at your other stuff.
The Blade: Duane's classic Bowie grind from CTS-XHP, finished with his Gunmetal finish with brushed flats and matte bevels! No jimping on the spine for a clean look. Duane tested the heat treat on this blade himself (evident by the small test mark near the steel type marking).
The Frame: Ultralight magnesium presentation side scale with diamond plate texture! The magnesium has been finished with a weathered dark grey/black finish, periodic table markings and has a light texture to it to add extra grip. Titanium liner under magnesium for additional stabilizing and frame reinforcement. Titanium lock side has matte blasted natural Ti finish weathered to match the magnesium, with subtle radial engraved texture. In addition to being light, the Magnesium side can be used as a fire starter, adding some extra function to the knife. Both sides have been ball milled giving both increased grip and looks that kill. Black frame hardware with two tone natural '458' pivot
Has a couple light scuffs/scratches, otherwise excellent condition.
