Overview
This Wakizashi features a mirror polished blade with nice hamon, .304" blade stock and 1.303" blade depth, hidden tang construction. The handle has an engraved copper habiki, black steel tsuba with nickel silver seppas, black steel fuchi and kashiri with gold inlays, leather covered wooden tsuka with black ito and menuki. Comes with a black Saya and a sword bag. Comes with COA. Has one small nick in the blade edge, otherwise excellent condition.
This sword came from a veteran estate and has been professionally and properly restored, with the intention of using it for martial arts by the previous owner.
An impressive sword by a well known Edo Period maker, it features a very thick blade with almost no curvature, and it's original old mounts. The lacquer work and large nickel seppa were redone by Josiah Boomershine. The fittings (fuchi, kashira, koiguchi, and kojiri are all late Higo school and match. They are made of iron with matching designs of gold inlay. The temper line is incredibly active.
The tsuba (guard) is crafted from a beautiful iron plate with inlaid silver rain dragon. The matching menuki are buddhist ken swords, and the handle has been professionally re-wrapped for cutting.
The blade was polished by the renowned sword polisher Bob Benson, and papered Hozon by the Japanese sword museum, the NBTHK. This sword is in excellent condition and is in fresh polish.
Another Sadahiro wakizashi recently sold at auction, but had been altered and needed polishing. It is sold for $7200. This is priced for a quick sale at $4200, obo.
ITEM MEASUREMENTS
The complete blade measures 28 5/8" long, and the cutting edge measures 22 9/16" long and the tang measures about 6" long.
The blade is 1 5/16" wide, and 5/16" thick at the hamachi, and 15/16" wide at the yokote.
