Overview

This set by Jimmy Lile was made for Beretta USA Corp in commemoration of his 20th year as a full time knife maker. There were supposed to be 200 sets made, this one is #15. There is some conflicting info in my research, but I don't believe all the sets were finished before Jimmy passed away.

The set includes three knives, the first is a large skinning or carving knife, .177" blade stock and 1.117" blade depth, full tapered tang construction with American black walnut scales attached with hidden stainless steel rivets. 6.5" blade 11.25" overall.

The second is a large clip point bowie with false top edge, .229" blade stock and 1.946" blade depth, hidden tang construction. The handle has a stainless steel guard, turned collar and butt, and a spiral fluted American black walnut grip. 10" blade 15" overall.

The third knife is a drop point hunter, .180" blade stock and 1.003" blade depth, full tapered tang construction with American black walnut scales attached with hidden stainless steel rivets. 3.75" blade 8.25" overall.

This set of knives comes in a glass top display case with key lock. Comes with a Certificate of Authenticity hand signed by James B. Lile and dated April 17, 1989. All three knives have D2 blade steel. The set is in excellent condition.

Lile, Jimmy

It’s not enough to say Jimmy Lile was a legend among knifemakers. He made his mark on the custom knife world long before the Rambo movies made him famous. But even more famous was the knife on which he and Sylvester Stallone had collaborated. The knife would become the star of the great movie, Rambo, First Blood. Jimmy and Sly went on to create a second star for the next movie in the series, Rambo, First Blood II, The Mission. These two knives have enjoyed over 3 decades of fame as either model is still coveted in the knife collecting community. Inducted into the Blade Magazine Cutlery Hall of Fame in 1984 and the ABS Bladesmithing Hall of Fame in 1999. Jimmy passed away in 1991.
