Overview
This Viking Axe was a collaboration between Liam Hoffman and Jason Lonon. It features a wrought iron head with a Damascus bit. The handle is hand shaped Purple Heart. Comes with a brown leather sheath. 8.5" from blade edge to the back of the axe head. 26" handle. New from maker at the 2018 Blade Show.Note from the Hoffman Blacksmithing website:
"Here's the multi-week collaboration between myself and local NC craftsman, Jason Lonon. This axe is of a hewing and carpentry style, and forged in a traditional Scandinavian socketed construction, using Damascus steel, purple heart, and the irreplaceable old world material known as "wrought iron". The axe consists of four (4) separate pieces of steel, which are forged welded together in a coal fire. The socket, mid section, and blade body are all old salvaged wrought iron, while the cutting edge is Damascus steel. This process and construction is tedious and requires far more time, and skill to produce than a standard axe does. The thick diamond shaped cross section of the blade is a hallmark of the Scandinavian style, which accentuates the Damascus steel cutting edge. Thick exotic purple heart was used and fitted to the head in a reverse tapering socket. The OAL of axe is 26 inches, and blade width of 6.25 inches.
Jason and I wanted to make this axe more available to a wider audience, rather than to the "highest bidder", and so we have lowered prices, and limited the pool to 250. You may purchase more than 1 spot, and each spot counts as 1 entry. Sales will end on Thursday morning, the 31st of May at 10AM ET.
My part in the collaboration included - Forging the Damascus steel billet, Forge welding the axe together, Heat treating, Final polish on the head.
Jason's part in the collaboration included - Forging and preparing the wrought iron materials, Forge welding the axe together, Handle making and finishing. "
