Overview
This is the ONLY steel version of this rare knife we've ever seen. Most are production models in brass. The casting is crude and blade is definitely hand made. Scales of ebony. We believe this is a very early piece of this RARE model. The bolster is stamped Novelty Hunting Knife, Pat. Nov 11.84. The patent (#307,767) was issued to Isaac W. Heysinger (former Captain in Pennsylvania 19th Cavalry) on November 11, 1884. The original design showed interchangeable blades.
The steel on this piece shows rust and scratches. Blade appears to have been sharpened numerous times and is somewhat different that the shape shown in the patent. Own a piece of knife history!
