Frist, Steven
"In the mid 2000's I cobbled together a grinder and ruined a whole bunch of steel. These days, I have a full shop and much better skills, but my average output is only a couple of knives per month. I have enjoyed working with Damascus making "fancy" hunters, but lately I have realized that the market is in more utilitarian knives. I am currently using quite a bit of m390 and the best heat treatment available today. My knives cut. I have enjoyed a slow but steady stream of customers who want me to build them a one-off custom knife. I do my own leather or kydex work and build presentation boxes to suit the customer. The challenge of making someone else's "dream knife" keeps me from getting bogged down in a few stock patterns. As a side project, I am making some "art" knives with aspirations of being mentioned in the same breathe as some of the giants in our stock and trade. I have a lot to learn still, but the knives I am producing now are designed to appear and perform as well as anything on the market today."
