Overview
The COA is as follows: April 1, 1989 Letter of Description, Knife #47 This knife was completed April 1, 1989. It is based on an old Remington Congress pattern, enlarged about 18%. It has a clip-point master blade, a spear 2nd blade and a coping 3rd blade or back blade. The blades and springs are made from 440C stainless tool steel and the rest of the metal in the knife is 416 stainless steel. The blades were hardened to 56 on the Rockwell C scale, the springs to 41. All blades are mounted on Olite bearings. All blades are "long pull", the nail marks cut with an engraving chisel. The bolsters and liners were milled from one piece of steel. The blades and all the metal in the knife were hand worked to a satin finish to better display the engraving. The handles are of mother-of-pearl, with particularly good color and figure. A long curved bar shield of 416SS was inlayed into the front scale. This shield was engraved with a scroll pattern. The blades and bolsters of this knife are relief engraved with a small scroll pattern in relief. The back of the master blade and spring are engraved with a small line-cut scroll pattern. The minor blades and springs are fileworked with a pattern of alternating cuts with tri-square and round jewelers files, 368 file cuts were made. The dark background of the engraving may wear away with handling, there is not truly permanent way to darken stainless steel. I will always be happy to refinish the background, clean, polish, and sharpen the knife. This is the first multi-blade knife i have made, also the first congress pattern, the first whittler, and the first with a bar shield. I spent about 100 hours making this knife. I am pleased with the knife, but considering the time consumed I will probably not make another. It represents two and on half single blade knives in time. This knife was commissioned by .................... It is marked with my oak-leaf logo on the blade. It is the 47th knife i have made. Comes with zippered case and COA. Has a few light scratches, otherwise excellent condition.
