Overview

One of New York's finest was an NYPD officer named John D'Allara. Officer D'Allara was a long-time Spyderco collector who owned and used nearly every model we've made. Sadly he was one of the many police officers who never came out of the World Trade Center on September 11th 2001. When we approached the release date of our new rescue knife, we thought it fitting to name it in his honor. The D'Allara Rescue brings to market a full-sized rescue knife designed with the requirements of LEOs and EMTs in mind.

Like most rescue/emergency knives its rounded sheepfoot blade has no pointed tip. Evenly thick from heel to tip, the blade is hollow-ground VG-10 and comes fully serrated with a SpyderEdge. Its handle is three-dimensional and Bi-Directionally Textured on both sides. This makes for comfortable ergonomics and reduces fatigue while cutting long-term. Tucked inside the handle are rigid dual steel liners and a Ball Bearing Lock. The Ball Bearing Lock has an heavy-duty level strength rating. This means that the lock holds more weight per inch of blade than normal use knives. Comforting peace-of-mind when your knife could make the difference at an accident scene or on duty. Both the lock and the tension wire clip are ambidextrous. Pocket clip carries tip-up.

This knife was very slightly used. Some minor marks on the blade and a very small chip near the tip on the edge. Blade Steel: VG-10

About the Maker

Spyderco
Spyderco

Spyderco was founded in 1976 by Sal and Gail Glesser. Initially, the company focused on selling their first product the Tri-Angle Sharpmaker™, primarily at fairs and trade shows around the country. In 1981, the Glessers put down roots in Golden, Colorado and introduced the first Spyderco folding knife. That knife pioneered the concept of a round hole in the blade for one-handed opening, a clip on the handle for carry at the top of the pocket, and the option of a serrated edge for aggressive cutting performance. Those features revolutionized the knife industry and literally defined the form of the modern folding knife. Since then, Spyderco has steadily grown to become one of the leaders in the cutlery industry. In addition to a worldwide distribution network and manufacturing resources in the U.S., Japan, Taiwan, Italy, and China, our innovation has also earned us an impressive portfolio of patents, trademarks, and industry awards. More importantly, it has allowed us to earn the trust and loyalty of countless thousands of dedicated knife users around the world—an audience to whom we are extremely grateful.
