About the Maker
White, Gerald
Gerald has been intrigued with knives since he was a Boy Scout. He has always appreciated the practical usefulness as well the art and detail of a finely handcrafted knife. One of his favorites is a Loveless classic drop point knife purchased over thirty five years ago. Almost twenty years ago when his wife dragged him to a craft show, he was happy to find a knife maker, Mike Wilson at the show. He purchased a Mike Wilson knife and years later, their youngest son, David, also purchased a Wilson knife. Mike was kind enough to ask David if he would like to learn to make a knife. Gerald, Garrett (their middle son) and David went to Mike's and entered the world of handcrafting knives. Gerald saw this as an opportunity to spend time with two of his sons as they were finishing high school and college. They have been tutored by Jerry Hossom, and the late George Herron, two of the finest makers of knives. Sandy Morrisey, a master of making sheaths, was generous enough to teach them how to make custom fitting sheaths.Gerald specializes in fancy hunters and fighters and occasional bowies, and likes using stabilized burled woods and all ivories, with Mike Norris stainless Damascus and mirror polished 440 C stainless steel. He likes to include engraved bolsters and guards on some knives. He hand crafts and sews a tooled 7 to 8 ounce leather sheath for each knife.
