Shipping Policy

Any customers with separate shipping and billing addresses are subject to follow up contact. If no contact can be made, your order will be cancelled. Please understand that this policy is to protect our customers from fraud and theft.

Shipping costs are calculated automatically when you checkout. Orders to P.O. Boxes or military addresses require shipping via USPS.

Orders placed by 3:00pm EST will be shipped the same day. All orders shipped USPS (including Express) may take an additional business day to process and ship. We strongly recommend shipping UPS if you need guaranteed delivery by a certain date.

For our international customers, you must call or email after ordering to arrange for duties/customs and declarations before we will ship your order. USPS Express International shipments with declarations greater than $200, incur an additional $15.00 fee for postage/insurance.

Layaway Information

Layaway Policies

We offer a layaway plan on select products so you may pay for your order over a period of 60 days. Products that are eligible for layaway will show "Layaway Available: Yes" on the product page.

Here's how it works:

The total amount of the order excluding shipping, tax, or fees is divided into three (3) equal payments. The first payment is due with the order, the second payment is due 30 days later, and the final payment is due 60 days after the order.

There is a $15 non-refundable fee for layaway orders. This fee is added to the first payment along with the shipping and any tax. The first payment is made when the order is placed.

Example: Your order total is $300 plus $12.75 shipping and handling. If you select the layaway option, your payments would be:

  • $127.75 (1/3 of purchase = $100 + $15 layaway fee + $12.75 shipping)
  • $100.00 (1/3 of purchase = $100)
  • $100.00 (1/3 of purchase = $100)

If your initial payment is made by credit card, we will automatically process the 2nd and 3rd payments at the appropriate time using the same credit card information. You will be reminded via email that a payment will be charged. If you need to change this for any reason, please contact us.

For payments made other than credit card, payment must be received within seven (7) days of the due date or the order is subject to cancellation. You will receive a reminder via email that a payment is due.

If you wish to complete payment early and have your order shipped, you may contact us at any time during the 60 day period. There is no penalty for prepayment.

Additional products may be added to a layaway order without penalty. A new payment schedule will be calculated based on when additional products are added.

Cancellations of layaway orders are subject to a restocking/processing fee of 10% of the order total (not including tax and shipping costs). This restocking fee is in addition to the $15 non-refundable layaway fee.

 Comes with hand signed Letter from Rick Barrett:

"This tanto was forged using medium and high grade Tamahagane ore produced in Japan. The blade is forged following soshu den tradition and is constructed in Maru Gitae fashion. The bo hi are cut traditionally using sen, a traditional hardened scraping tool that removes the material slowly in much the same fashion as a wood plane. The hada (grain structure) is primarily itame with a bit of masame. Hamon is a nicely subdued midare in nio deki with some small nie in spots. This particular blade is a presentation piece done in similar fashion of blades that would be made in honor of a wedding or birth of a child, which places it in high regard as a priceless family heirloom.

"This blade is forged from all Japanese ore (tamahagane) and exhibits an extremely tight and refined mokume hada. Hamon is gunome midare with lots of hataraki. Bo-hi were cut by Josiah Boomershine, who made a beautiful copper habaki as well. This tanto would be a great dedication piece to mommemorate a birth or wedding." "For over twenty years I have been obsessed with the Japanese sword and the various mysteries involved with its forging. I started my journey into swordsmithing while I was yet a teenager by joining the various sword study groups and regularly attending shows (Token Kai) around the U.S. Around the time I first began delving into the craft there was very little written about smithing of the blades themselves so most of my knowledge was self taught through trial and error. As I gradually learned new techniques and succeeded at producing traditional aesthetics I found myself drawn even more strongly toward tackling even the most minute details in the steel which has brought me to smelting my own steel from refined iron and iron sand. I do use a variety of modern tools and techniques in making my blades as I don't have the liberty of having apprentices to work my hammers or the room to build large tatara. As such I primarily use propane to fire my forge and hand made smelter as well as a 115 Lb. air hammer and various modern grinding tools for doing my final shaping. For my specialty, Japanese swords, I only use my own personally smelted orishigane or tamahagane and 1075, W1 and W2 (for cutting blades). I have chosen to use traditional materials solely in an effort to master the multitude of traditional characteristics found on properly made Japanese blades. These include the formation of utsuri, chikei, sunagashi and formation of varying sized nie and nio as well as controlling their placement on the blade. Many smiths spent their whole lives trying to master their control over the naturally induced features in a blade and I fully expect this to be my lifelong journey as well. I also frequently make various contemporary swords and knives based off fantasy inspiration and the darker side of my psyche. The steel for these blades will vary depending on the overall design and effect desired. On occasion I will use pattern welded steel from Daryl Meier but unless otherwise noted all blade materials and fittings are made by myself. Occasionally I will collaborate with several other exceptional bladesmiths and artists."
