Overview
When I began to plan the original Acies, I collected the finest frame-locks in the market place: those of Chris Reeve, H. P. Klotzli, and Bob Dozier. We tore them down and studied the engineering that made these knives stand so high above the other frame-lock knives on the market. We used what I consider the best mechanical features from each of those makers' knives, then added some of our own to create the best functioning frame-lock folder available at any price. While S30V and D2, as heat-treated by Bob Dozier, are superb blade steels, ZDP-189 is a step above even those for cutting performance. And the addition of the licensed Hinderer Stabilizer further strengthens the lock by not allowing the locking arm to flex, keeping it always in the intended position.
The original Acies was limited to less than 700 pieces because I only had enough Titanium in the proper thickness for that number of knives and I had no source in this country for more of the same. Those have completely sold out and the NEW, smaller version is ready for delivery.
The NEW Acies2 drop-point blade of 1/8 thick ZDP-189 at 64-66 Rc. measures just under 3. It measures a full 1 wide and fills the 6A14V Titanium handle with more blade than you will find in knives designed by others. The deep pocket clip allows the knife to ride completely submerged in the pocket. We ship with the clip in a tip up carry position but it can easily be changed to tip down. Measures 3-3/4 closed and weighs 3.0 oz. While the raw steel for the blade comes from Japan, the entire knife is made in the United States. Our first order is for just over 500 knives. Unless the ZDP blade steel is discontinued, we expect to continue to offer them as long as folks want to buy them.
