Overview

The Highland Hatchet is a Winkler Knives rendition of Daniel Winkler’s hand forged originals. The utilitarian nature of his forged works was the basis of his early relationship with America’s Tier 1 warriors and the origination of Winkler Knives.

With an overall length of 10.87 inches and a fully skeletonized handle, the Winkler Highland Hatchet is a compact and lightweight tool. The stock of the hatchet is made of 3/8" 80CrV2 carbon steel. This durable material allows the hatchet to put up with the abuse of heavier camp chores, despite its light weight. Our edition comes with laser etched topo on beautiful maple slabs.

Daniel Winkler specialized in forged knives and axes crafted in the tradition of Frontier America – a time when the tools a person carried meant sustenance and survival. The traditional nature of his work is evident in Winkler Knives designs but never more than with the Highland Hatchet.

Bred for hard, honest use, the Winkler Highland Hatchet lives up to its heritage as a compact, lightweight and versatile tool with a distinctive place in the history of the American frontier.

About the Maker

Winkler Knives
Winkler Knives

Daniel Winkler began making knives in 1975 and became a fulltime bladesmith in 1988. He earned accreditation as a Master Bladesmith from the American Bladesmith Society in 1993. Winkler’s focus on Early American weaponry led to his making knives and axes for the motion picture "Last Of The Mohicans".. Winkler Knives is a limited production company that custom manufactures a diverse line of high performance edged tools. It was established in response to requests from within the SOF Community for specialized breaching tools and has become widely acclaimed for its no frills approach to tactical and rescue operations. Winkler Knives’ products boast attributes such as tapered or skeletonized tangs, no-glare finishes and multi-option carry systems. Each tool is made from specialty steel best suited to the intended use of the equipment. Winkler Knives’ operation is in Boone, North Carolina. Daniel and his longtime partner/wife Sheath Maker Karen Shook operate Winkler Knives with the same attention to detail and standards of excellence that brought them acclaim in the custom knife industry.
