Overview
The Model 89 Melon Whittler was first released in October 2009. Later, GEC released the Executive which capitalizes on the simple elegance of the knife. The #89 pattern is modeled after a Melon testing knife, but has a couple GEC touches.
The Melon Whittler is a long, thin Jack Knife, like all melon testers, but it is married to the blades and spring system of a whittler. It makes for an elegant, gentleman's knife.
The Melon knife is a relatively modern pattern which first appeared in the 1930's. It is a lightweight, slim Jack with a spear point blade. It has also been known as a Citrus Knife and a Sausage Knife.
Don't be fooled by its slender frame, this is no wimpy pocket knife, it is a Great Eastern Knife and you can use.
The 89 Melon Whittler is a little shorter than a typical melon knife at 4" Long closed. As with most of GEC's offerings, it features a number of premium handle materials. The blades are made from superbly heat treated 1095 high carbon steel or from the respected 440c Stainless Steel.
Comes with original packaging and Certification #24/50 6/15/2010. Excellent condition.
