Overview
This is the original description from the maker:
Our goal was to design a timeless dagger that was just as deadly – but even more useful — than the original. Having consulted with some of the best knife fighters in the world, we believe we have created the ultimate fighting knife. However, as Special Forces soldiers ourselves, we understand that every bit of space on our kit is precious and we do not have the luxury of carrying extra weight for a single use item. Therefore we designed the GB-42 to be an indestructible tool that could cut, stab, dig, saw, and hammer so that it could also be deployed in any climate and under any conditions.
But more than that, we have designed this knife to be as beautiful and iconic as the original. The jimping at the base of our patent-pending blade are deep cut-outs that represent the notches on an arrowhead – while the flat section on top of the blade represents the arrowhead itself. For those unfamiliar with the symbolism, the arrowhead is an emblem for special operations forces and virtually every SOCOM unit patch is in the shape of an arrowhead.
But the notches aren’t merely for show. The “arrowhead” silhouette is an engineering design that maintains the incredible strength of the knife, eliminates almost any chance of it bending or breaking, and keeps the knife at its ideal weight. The jimping also assists in blocking and catching other bladed weapons, provides a leverage point for heavy cutting, and allows the knife to be used as a saw. This blending of design and function makes the GB-42 the most beautiful and useful dagger you’ll ever own — in addition to being the most effective.
Because all of our products are “best-of-breed,” the GB – 42 is unlike any other knife you’ve ever seen. You will not find this combination of features anywhere else.
- The best steel, the best finish, the best treatment, and the best handles
- Non-Slip In All Conditions. The exclusive pattern on the grip was developed over years of extensive use and testing in arduous conditions to ensure that it will always be comfortable and will never slip or create blisters — even after extended, constant, heavy use. The varying-sized facets increase the surface area to ensure a non-slip grip even when using underwater or if your hands are covered in oil.
- Improved GB Thumb Groove (patent pending). The thumb groove on the ricasso of the original V-42 has been moved back to the grip itself so that it is more comfortable and eliminates thumb overextension – making for a much stronger horizontal grip than the original V-42 allowed and far stronger than other knives.
- Ideal Length. The improved GB Thumb Groove (patent pending) allows for the ricasso to be completely eliminated — allowing the blade to be shortened to the ideal length for knife fighting. The reason that few (if any) special operators carry the originally designed V-42 is that the knife is just too long — it is unwieldy to run with and it’s not comfortable to carry with today’s equipment. Moreover, a longer blade in a knife fight is not necessarily an advantage – the ideal length for a fighting blade is between 5-6.5 inches. Removing the ricasso brings the total blade length to 6.25 inches and the total length of the knife to 11” – which is 1.5 inches shorter than the original V-42 and is the average length for knives that most special operators carry today. The shorter length allows the knife to be worn more comfortably on a tactical belt or attached to a tac vest.
- Improved Skull Crusher. The original skull crusher has been updated to a “Torsion Bar Crusher” (Patent Pending) – a thick flat extension of the full tang. Just as effective as the original, the extended flat surface also acts as a torsion bar which “locks” into the knife-edge of the hand when closed (in horizontal usage). This significantly improves grip rigidity and blocking power. The extra length makes it a far better choice for smashing (windows, door jambs, etc) than the original, conical design.
- Unparalleled Stability. The combination of the 3 grip improvements: the GB Thumb Groove (patent pending), the Torsion Bar Crusher (patent pending), and the exclusive non-slip dialectic grip means that it is virtually impossible for the GB-42 to rotate, twist, or slip in the user’s hand when employed in the horizontal mode — something that no other fighting knife can claim. This provides a significant tactical advantage in high-stress combat operations.
- LIMITED NUMBER of Subdued Olive Green (SOG) No-Shine Subdued Coating. The SOG finish is available in limited quantities and was designed with active duty special operators in mind. All non-sharpened metal surfaces are finished with a permanent dark olive green matte finish that doesn’t reflect light, obscures the shape, and makes the blade all but invisible in low-light conditions.
- Unbelievably Light. Despite its indestructibility and versatility, the weight is comparable to the knives that most warfighters wear today.
- 500 Numbered Blades. In keeping with the tradition of the original V-42, only the first 500 daggers will be numbered and are available at additional cost. The pre-production blades are limited to the first 25.
Comes with original sheath. #011. Has a couple very small scratches, otherwise excellent condition.
