Overview
From the Maker:
This knife, serial #6, "Blade Racer" is the sixth in a very limited series of steam punk knives I'm making. It has been one of the most challenging knives I've ever done, especially in the steam punk genre. It was finished 8-24-24 after three months and approximately 290 hours of work.
It features a tanto tipped, 4 3/8" high contrast nickel Damascus blade in a twist pattern and antiqued brass frame. The nine gears on this knife are made of bronze, steel, and brass, all of which move in one fashion or the other. The three oiling caps do not need oiled as the bearings they're mounted on are permanently lubricated.
The .054 cubic inch engine cycles with the rotation of the right rear gear set. Though it doesn't actually power the blade, it holds to the steam punk abundance of non-functionality.
The blade ratchets out and locks by gear engagement. To unlock the blade for closing, lower the brass framed gear set on the left front side until they disengage from the blade pivot main gear and then carefully close the blade to its retained position.
Thank you for choosing "Blade Racer" for your collection. I hope you enjoy it as it will be missed from my work bench.
