Layaway Information

Layaway Policies

We offer a layaway plan on select products so you may pay for your order over a period of 60 days. Products that are eligible for layaway will show "Layaway Available: Yes" on the product page.

Here's how it works:

The total amount of the order excluding shipping, tax, or fees is divided into three (3) equal payments. The first payment is due with the order, the second payment is due 30 days later, and the final payment is due 60 days after the order.

There is a $15 non-refundable fee for layaway orders. This fee is added to the first payment along with the shipping and any tax. The first payment is made when the order is placed.

Example: Your order total is $300 plus $12.75 shipping and handling. If you select the layaway option, your payments would be:

  • $127.75 (1/3 of purchase = $100 + $15 layaway fee + $12.75 shipping)
  • $100.00 (1/3 of purchase = $100)
  • $100.00 (1/3 of purchase = $100)

If your initial payment is made by credit card, we will automatically process the 2nd and 3rd payments at the appropriate time using the same credit card information. You will be reminded via email that a payment will be charged. If you need to change this for any reason, please contact us.

For payments made other than credit card, payment must be received within seven (7) days of the due date or the order is subject to cancellation. You will receive a reminder via email that a payment is due.

If you wish to complete payment early and have your order shipped, you may contact us at any time during the 60 day period. There is no penalty for prepayment.

Additional products may be added to a layaway order without penalty. A new payment schedule will be calculated based on when additional products are added.

If you wish to complete payment early and have your order shipped, you may contact us at any time during the 60 day period. There is no penalty for early payment.

Cancellations of layaway orders are subject to a restocking/processing fee of 10% of the order total (not including tax and shipping costs). This restocking fee is in addition to the $15 non-refundable layaway fee.

Overview

Last year I filed an application for a patent for the Black Box concept knife. The idea of a fixed blade with part of the blade retracted in the handle is a concept I designed back in the late 90's which was put in production by Masters Of Defense called the Phoenix. That knife had a button lock mechanism. For this Black Box concept I took the idea of the Phoenix and completely re-designed the entire knife, from the shape, to the locking mechanism and the sheath. Then I found a manufacturer who was able to produce these for me at the quality level that I wanted and an affordable price.

The concept allows the user to carry a 4" fixed blade with part of the blade retracted in the handle and only 1.5" exposed. The sheath holds onto the tip of the blade and as the knife is pulled out, it extends the blade. The patent pending mechanism locks the blade open. When the lock is disengaged the blade slides back in the handle and the knife can be put back in the sheath (it needs to be done in this order for a safer and trouble free re-holstering). The sheath features a clip which allows the user to secure it to garments and gear. The system allows the user to carry a 4" fixed blade in a compact package. The aluminum ring can be placed vertically or horizontally or removed completely (patent pending).

"I was born in Texas where I have lived most of my life, but I also lived in Indonesia, Taiwan, Singapore and Thailand. I have been interested in knives ever since I was very young. I have been practicing different martial arts over the past 30 years like Okinawan Te, Thai Boxing, Northern Shaolin and Kali. These trainings, along with my experiences as a Recon Marine, gave me the perfect background to design both defense and utility knives. During the time I spent at 4th Recon C Company, I was a Team Leader in charge of a Deep Recon Platoon. I am trained in Artillery Call for Fire, Naval Call for Fire, SOTG, Amphibious Recon and many in-company trainings. I have a Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice and an Associate Degree in Fine Arts. I started making knives part time while I was in College and decided to become a full-time knifemaker after graduating. I have been making knives since 1988, constantly researching, refining and developing this craft. I am a member of the American Knifemakers Guild since 1994. At that time I was the youngest Guild Member. My work has been awarded several prizes: “Best Utility knife” at the 1992 Lone Star Knife Show in Dallas “Beretta award” at the 1995 Guild Show Fighting Knife Magazine’s “Knifemaker of the Year” award in 1996 “Best High-tech Knife” award at the 2001 SICAC in Paris, France.
