Overview
A note from Marv, on the us militaria forum about this item:
"I have been told that these have been around for a long time , but this is only the second one I have ever seen...the only one with the mounting bracket. It is designed to break the jet canopy in an emergency. I had thought these were only used on the F-4 Phantom from the Viet Nam era, but lo and behold, after posting on another military sight, I was sent pictures of this knife being used on the F-4 Phantom, the F-100 Sabre Jet, and even the A-10 Warthog used in Iraq!! Who knows which other jets have installed these neglected little tools, sitting at the ready as they are? They came in red yellow and black. It weighs over a pound and a half and in the hand it feels like it could break or smash anything! "
Here's my egress knife. It has a Battleship Gray color bracket. (maybe Navy F-4?)
Some kind of F-4 trainer with red knife. (I know nothing about jets)(notice the nose is flat)
F-100 with yellow knife
A-10 Warthog (tank killer) (my son served in Kuwait and Iraq, this was his favorite plane)
Comes with bracket, and pin. Has rust, and patina. Good condition. .261" blade stock, 1.264" blade depth.
