Overview

Theories on when and where Khukuri blades originated are all over the board. Examples are so varied its probably accurate saying they might be the oldest cutlery style known. Todays cutlery circles recognize it as the national knife of Nepal but we know similar blade shapes were found on Greek swords (or Kopis) 2500 years ago, on Macedonian cavalry swords, Mongolian knives, 4th century Indian cutting implements and even some Japanese swords have similarities to todays modern Khukuri. In our world a Khukuri (also labeled a Khurkuri Gurkha or a Kukri) is used for a variety of everyday cutting chores and clearly associated with the country of Nepal. Theyre commonly used in Nepalese households and carried by military personnel.

Spydercos folding Khukuri is an Ed Schempp design with a semi-traditionally shaped VG-10 steel curving blade and deep drop-point belly offering impressive full-flat ground cutting power. Historically, the curve is synonymous with the valor of the solider carrying it. Our stylized version has a tapered hilt laying the foundation for dexterous control over the generous-sized blade. The handle is foliage green G-10 with left/right-hand tip up carry pocket clip. Inside the G-10 are full-length internal liners and a Michael Walker LinerLock®.

About the Maker

Spyderco
Spyderco

Spyderco was founded in 1976 by Sal and Gail Glesser. Initially, the company focused on selling their first product the Tri-Angle Sharpmaker™, primarily at fairs and trade shows around the country. In 1981, the Glessers put down roots in Golden, Colorado and introduced the first Spyderco folding knife. That knife pioneered the concept of a round hole in the blade for one-handed opening, a clip on the handle for carry at the top of the pocket, and the option of a serrated edge for aggressive cutting performance. Those features revolutionized the knife industry and literally defined the form of the modern folding knife. Since then, Spyderco has steadily grown to become one of the leaders in the cutlery industry. In addition to a worldwide distribution network and manufacturing resources in the U.S., Japan, Taiwan, Italy, and China, our innovation has also earned us an impressive portfolio of patents, trademarks, and industry awards. More importantly, it has allowed us to earn the trust and loyalty of countless thousands of dedicated knife users around the world—an audience to whom we are extremely grateful.
