Overview
This Katana comes with NBTHK (Hozon) certification. Type is a K10 Katana, it has no signature and is in the Mibara Style, from Bingo (Hiroshima) and from the Nanbokucho Period Jyoji-Eiwa 1362-1379.
It has a beautiful blade with nice visible hamon and an amazing pattern in the steel, has polished fullers, .286" blade stock and 1.050" blade depth, hidden tang construction. Has a beautiful textured copper habiki with gold leaf overlay, fileworked seppas with gold leaf overlay, engraved black tsuba, carved and engraved fuchi with gold inlays, hummingbird menukis under black leather Tsuka-Ito with white stingray skin, kashira gane with gold inlays. The Saya is black with horn Kojiri.
The blade itself is in beautiful condition with no scratches or oxidation. This blade comes with a Shirasaya, which is how it will arrive to you. The ornamental furniture you see in the pictures also comes with the sword and fits nicely, although it has a little rattle in the tsuba/seppa area. You will notice in the pictures that the sword is not fully seated into the handle, it is almost there, but I didn't want to force it in and struggle to get it out. I have no doubt that just a little futher and it would fit tightly. The furniture was most likely made more recently which is common, but still appears to be quite old, but impossible to say how old. Comes with a beautiful sword stand and sword bags as well. Beautiful sword. Excellent condition. Almost 700 years old. Comes with full documentation which will also be photographed.
