Overview
This Mediterranean Style Bowie by Master Smith Harvey Dean was the last knife he made as a Journeyman Bladesmith and was submitted on June 12th 1992 for judging to obtain his Mastersmith rating. On June 13th 1992, this knife was judged the best Bowie/Camp at the Blade Show and International Cutlery Fair in Atlanta, Georgia. On November 21st 1992, at the Lone Star Knife Expo in Richardson Texas, this knife was judged Best Art Knife for the show. It comes with the Plaque of that award.
This knife features a 320 layer Ladder Pattern Damascus blade consisting of 1018 and 01 steel, fileworked blade spine, .178" blade stock and 1.628" blade depth, full tapered tang construction. The tang is fully fileworked. The handle has anodized titanium scales with engraving by master engraver Bill Patterson, mother of pearl overlays. Comes with one of Harvey Dean's brochures with this knife featured in it, a photograph of the knife and award together, a letter from Harvey Dean dated 11-2-94 declaring that this was the last knife he made as a Journeyman Smith, along with other accolades and a description of the knife, and a zippered case. Excellent condition.
