Overview
This is a 14th Century Koto Era Wakizashi with maker's markings on the tang. It was/is a war relic and last belonged to a Japanese fighter pilot, WW2 era. He would carry it in his aircraft during missions. The handle has a silver habiki, the piece forward of the guard and fixed to the blade, it is very, very rare. It is of MT. FUJI in Japan, a sacred place in Japanese lore. Has a blackened copper tsuba, copper seppas with brass foil wrap and coin edges, The menukis in handle are gold Samurai warrior, both sides. Ray skin under black cord wrap, the rayskin has some cracks. The Fuchi and Kashira have gold ants engraved representing hard work and teamwork. The original wooden Mekugi pin is no longer present, but a replacement holds the handle on. Comes with a black saya that has a slot for a secondary knife. Comes with a sword bag. The blade is in very nice shape with just a couple of very light scratches. The handle has a little play in it, but that is to be expected with something of this age. Overall, a beautiful piece of history.
