Random Knives

Random Knives is a project formed by two friends, Lautaro Julio (26 years old) and Mauro Santacatterina (32 years old). In 2014 we began to manufacture our first handmade knives, each one individually in its workshop. Until 2018 we got together to merge our workshops and create a joint project. Since then, Random Knives has evolved over time and has developed its own identity, based on constantly reinventing itself. The knives are entirely made in our workshop, we personally choose each material, seeking the highest possible quality, and we seek to make each piece special and unique. To build the blades, we use different forging techniques, and depending on the type of knife we are making, we choose the appropriate combination of steel. Our preferred forging techniques are San Mai; Go-Mai; damascus steel. Currently our workshop is located in the town of Don Bosco (Quilmes, Buenos Aires, Argentina). We work on request for collectors around the world, designing and materializing our own ideas and others together with our clients. The history of knives is linked to the beginnings of human evolution and is one of the most iconic inventions in our history. This being the key tool to develop new technologies, defend ourselves and process food in premature times for our species. The knife-human relationship is so old (2.6 million years) that there are those who claim that it was indispensable for the development of the world as we know it. In this craft, we were able to find a space of freedom for artistic experimentation, which is why we have decided to dedicate our time to the design and construction of knives as a tribute to this noble tool. We understand that this ancient art has been redefined throughout history and allowing, as with other artistic disciplines, the possibility of breaking through with new concepts. Each knife depends entirely on the decisions of its creators, for this reason, each piece has in its essence the imprint of whoever created it.
