Kappeller, Richard
Knives have been my passion for most of my life, and in 2002, I made crafting them my profession. My curriculum at the Holztechnikum Kuchl near Salzburg was centered upon woodworking, so my shift to blades brought about a shift in material as well: from wood to steel. Being a knife maker means, first and foremost, making knives. In that sense I could already call myself a knife maker when I was a student and made my first knives — for myself or for my classmates. Those early efforts were undertaken with extremely limited equipment. After more than fifteen years of working as a professional knife maker, I look back on that time with a smile. They were modest beginnings, but full of great ambition that is still alive in me to this day.
