Hunter to most or Matt Hunter to some in the industry. Starting back in 2016 I was sucked down a plethora of rabbit holes starting with exotic wood, jewelry, casting resin, and stabilizing. I got obsessed and spent thousands of hours learning everything I possibly could to expand my knowledge on these subjects and other closely related areas in the handmade crafts industry. As I dove deeper I discovered vintage laminated materials such as Micarta, Bakelite, Galalith, Fordite, Tenite, and the list goes on. Shortly thereafter I discovered Westinghouse Ivorite and the rest is history. I became obsessed yet again, but this time with natural patina, age, and the history of these vintage/obsolete antiques. People often ask me what I do…the short answer is that I’m a treasure hunter, an antiques dealer, and a multi-media functional artist. My main goal and passion lies in educating the masses and exposing the industry to new old materials that may have never been designed or made for our purposes and rediscovering the stuff that was. 8 years later I’m still as obsessed and passionate about learning and discovering materials as I ever was…if not more today.
